My Son's Taekwondo Camo Belt Testing at CMA Martial Arts

My Son Gabriel has been taking Taekwondo over at CMA Martial Arts in Langley which is actually the same gym where I do my CrossFit workouts. Gabriel was being tested today for his "Camo Belt" and did really well. I wouldn't want to meet him in a dark ally ;)

Kids Taekwondo Martial Arts Class at CMA Martial Arts

I mentioned a few videos back that my kids where taking some Martial Arts classes over at my CrossFit Gym. Our CrossFit coach Darren is an instructor in Taekwondo and has taught kids for years. He recently relaunched a Martial Arts class for kids based on Taekwondo but with other aspects of Martial Arts mixed in.

In this video I show you one of the classes being taught by Darren, it was a rather hot summer day so the traditional Martial Arts attire was not being worn and the class was a bit more laid back then most others. Darren can be firm at times but also realizes they are kids and not every day is as productive as the rest due to varying concentration levels.

Gabriel (7), my son is part of the Black-Belt club which means he get's to wear a black uniform and trains three days per week with some one-on-one training mixed in. Gabriel is really excited to be training with Darren.

Jordan (9), my Daughter is a bit on the fence as to continuing on which is a bit of a shame since she has the flexibility and athleticism to do really well in Taekwondo but I do not want to force this on her and she is rather strong willed.

Daily Workout - MMA at World Class Martial Arts

I wasn't sure if my MMA gym was going to have Saturday sessions as this Thursday is Canada Day. So to be safe and make sure I got my Beat-down in this week, I went to a Wednesday morning Muay Thai & MMA class.

We did a really heavy skipping warmup that consisted of regular skipping for 30 seconds and then knee high skipping for 30 seconds, it seemed to go on forever! After which we did 100 Pushups, 100 Sit ups and 100 Squats.

Then we got into the training side of things and worked on some basic sweeps and arm bars. We finished off with about 10 minutes of rolling (BJJ Wrestling).

Total workout was 1.5 hours.

Daily Workout - MMA at World Class Martial Arts

I just wanted to do a quick update as I've been away camping since Friday afternoon. I did however find some time to do get a Friday morning MMA workout in before we left.

We did a pretty heavy warmup that consisted of lots of skipping intermixed with Push-ups, Sit-ups, Squats, Burpies and sprints. Afterwards we worked on Kicking and Takedowns. It was a great workout!

Daily Workout - MMA at World Class Martial Arts

I had a great workout at my local MMA gym, mostly we worked on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu transition moves. Learning how to go from different mount positions into what would be a better mount position. For example: going from a side mount (this is when my opponent is on their back and I have my weight over them but I am on a right angle to them) and then I transition to a full mount (this is when I have my full weight on my opponent with my legs above their hips in a stradle position)

After this we continued with more Brazilian Jiu Jitsu work with added striking and then in to some full on sparring in the last hour.

All in all it was a nice two hour workout that I will no doubt feel tomorrow.
