Trimming for more Definition - Slow and Steady - Get Fit Over 40 Video Requests
In this Get Fit Over 40 Video Requests YouTube Video I talk about a couple email discussions I had recently. The email discussions weren't exactly direct questions but I thought the topic was note worthy enough to share with the rest of you.
The first discussion was about body hair and whether grooming it makes you look more defined, does it actually make a difference? I guess it depends on how hairy you are and In know my arms and legs have enough growth and density that trimming them periodically, well at least for me shows the muscle tone and vascularity off much better, maybe even giving you a more lean look overall. Heck, if you have put in lots of work to get leaner and more muscular, you may as well make it look as good as you can :)
The second topic I discuss is one that I am very passionate about, I strongly feel that you should not be too extreme when reaching your fitness goals. Too many people take radical steps by going on super low calorie diets and doing crazy amounts of cardio and other fitness activities. None of which I feel are healthy or even sustainable over the long haul. Many of these people do hit their fitness goals but then find they are burned out and often fall back into bad habits and either gain all or most the weight back and worst of all have lost interest in their health and fitness goals altogether.
A slow and steady approach with realistic long term goals will always be the better course of action. One way of looking at it is to figure out where you want to be in terms of your body weight and muscle mass and then figure out what you need to do to sustain that level of fitness long term. Then plan your eating and exercise routine so that when you hit your goal, all you need to do is keep doing what you have been doing all along. It may take a bit longer but it's a lifestyle choice, not a race, and your body will not fight you so much getting to your fitness goal and even more importantly, staying at your fitness goal.
Anyone can lose a bunch of weight and put on some good muscle, the hard part is staying that way!
