DJI Avata FPV Drone - Like Flying a Mini Jet Fighter

First off did I need the DJI Avata FPV Drone? No I did not. Did the sale price influence my purchase? Maybe a little bit. Either way I now have one more resource I can draw on to make interesting content and in terms of adventure video the DJI Avata will for sure capture it in a very dynamic way.

The DJI Avata FPV Drone is also incredibly fun to fly as you use goggles to fly it so it feels like you are literally on board the Avata while it swoops and turns and goes just about anywhere at rocket like speeds.

One huge bonus is I can get a similar adrenaline rush as I do while I ride my PEV's, but with zero bodily risk to myself if I where to crash. If I crashed on one of my PEV's, more than likely both myself and the PEV would be damaged in some way for sure. The DJI Avata FPV Drone is built like a tank and can take some pretty decent tumbles and impacts without getting damaged.

In terms of getting adventure content, the DJI Avata FPV Drone can capture traditional cinematic drone video but has the advantage of flying super low to the ground, between extremely narrow gaps and with that First Person View giving the audience the feeling like they are in the action. Something a normal drone can not do! The DJI Avata also records in 4k at 60 frames per second so the quality is up there for sure.

In this video I do an unboxing and take a look at what you get in the packaging. I also take it outside and capture some of my initial flights and crashes.

Scooped Up a DJI Mavic Mini 1 for Even More Immersive Adventure Content

I have featured my HoverAir X1 which is basically a flying selfi camera that can do some of what a drone does but is limited to a much shorter range and for the most part it uses preset autonomous flight modes for stuff like zooming out, zooming up, hovering in place and motion tracking, following while tracking and front facing video while tracking. Where the HoverAir X1 does not do well in terms of being drone-like is controlling it manually as it does not come with a remote control so you have to use the smart phone app and control it that way which is not as precise or fast as a dedicated remote controller

That all said I wanted to add in a more traditional drone so I can take those cinematic shots for my future adventure videos and capture some of the beautiful scenery I encounter on my journeys.

I decided to get an older DJI Drone as DJI is the gold standard and in most cases a DJI Drone even a few years old is going to be way better than a new non DJI Drone. So for around $300 I can get something like the DJI Mavic Min that came out in 2019 but still holds its own in terms of video quality and features compares to what you can get for a lot more money new now. Sure the new stuff can do higher resolutions video and has new features like crash detection and better range but I don't necessarily need all of that, I prefer to keep more money in my wallet.

In this video I show you what around $300 can get you in the used drone market, I talk a bit about the DJI Mavic Mini and all it can do. And I of course show you some video I shot in my backyard testing out the DJI Mavic Mini.

Noel Booth Park Langley Dog Walk HoverAir X1

I am planning on starting a series of videos that I will be creating on the channel that will be adventure based. Where I plan to cover my outdoor adventures either on my own or with family and friends. I want to capture this content in an interesting way using a variety of cameras ranging from action cameras, to 360 cameras, to drones and I may even use my smartphone camera once in a while?

Content will range from walks and hikes in parks and or destinations to exhilarating rides on one of many of my many electric personal vehicles.

Here is a quick video of my Wife Nicole and I out walking the puppers at Noel Booth Park in Langley right near our house that hopefully gives you an idea of things to come.

Magical Blogging Tool - Hover Camera X1

When it comes to video and audio components that I use for making my videos, I am always looking for something that can improve the creativity or quality of my videos and audio in the videos so I keep an eye out for any new tech that I think is ingesting.

I tried using a drone in the past but found them too time consuming to setup and the drone noise always got into the sound of the video which can be a problem when you need live audio.

And then along comes the Hover Camera X1, it’s not really what you would expect exactly from a drone or camera. As a drone you would expect a remote along with GPS and the ability to go super high and far away and fly really fast. Well the Hover Camera X1 doesn’t do any of that.

As a camera you would expect something you can put on a tripod or at the end of a selfie stick and that is for the most part a more static object. Again the Hover Camera X1 is not really any of this.

What the Hover Camera X1 is is a new type of tech that allows you to have many of the benefits of what a camera man can do along with some of the cool tracking shots that a drone can do. And all in a device that fits easily in your pocket and weighs less than a smartphone.

In this Video I go into what the Hover Camera X1 can and can not do and where it really excels as compared to what a typical camera and typical drone is capable of. Yes there are some similarities but there are for sure something newish a conventional camera or drone can match.

Watch my video review with my take on the Hover Camera X1 with samples videos showing off the capabilities this very versatile video and photo tool can perform.

Testing out the DJI Spark Shooting Some Airguns

This test of the DJI Spark Mini Drone was done more from the perspective of using it for my ReplicAirguns.com airguns channel but I do plan to use My DJI Spark Mini Drone to record and follow me in a similar way when I use it for GetFtiOver40.com videos. The method I use in this video doesn't even require a remote control or smartphone and I can have it take off right out of my hand.

I then use hand gestures to control the DJI Spark Drone to do things like: Place the drone in the right starting location, make the DJI Spark start recording video, have the Spark zoom up and out from me for an "eye in the sky" aerial follow me mode and then of course when I am finished what I want it to record have the DJI Spark return to me and land again on my hand. Again all of this without even taking the remote out of the box or even using a smartphone to control the DJI Spark Mini Drone!

Watch me test out the DJI Spark Mini Drone in my backyard while I shoot some of my Airguns at miscellaneous targets while I walk around and have the DJI Spark follow me while recording video.
