New Strict Press PR of 205 Pounds at Lower Body Weight of 191

A couple weeks back I posted an excited update about my 200 Pound Shoulder Press PR, when I was 193 pounds. Skip ahead two weeks and I ramped my Shoulder Press up by 5 pounds to 205 pounds while dropping 2 pounds of body weight coming in at 191 pounds!

Who says you can't get stronger while cutting? It's not easy but you can make small gains if you keep the intensity up.

Using Proper Technique When Lifting Weights

I see a lot of people, even experienced body builders in the gym using some questionable exercise technique. Hey we all do it from time to time and there can even be a time and a place to use partial range of motion and even some cheated reps. For the most part however, we should really try to practice exercise movements that use full range of motion, without swinging of the body or arms and with full pauses at the top and bottom of the rep.

Like anything in life, we can develop some bad habits so make sure to take a step back and just don't assume you are doing it right. I even suggest using a video camera and record your workouts periodically so you can see how you actually look while working out. It can be an real eye opener for sure but at least it will allow you to make corrections.

Watch my YouTube Video where I demonstrate some "how not's" and some "how to's" for using Proper Technique When Lifting Weights!

It's Official - Registered for the Sandra Wickham Fall Classic 2014

Well it's now official - Today I registered for the (BCABBA) Sandra Wickham Fall Classic 2014 Amateur Bodybuilding Show. I will be competing in the Mens Masters Physique portion of the show.

This show is being held at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster BC Canada on November the 8th if this year, so about a month away now. I have been working hard all year for this show and for the last couple of months have been doing a slow cut to prepare, this last month will be the hard part since I am starting to feel the effects of my ever lowering body fat ;)

I have no idea what to expect, I am doing this for the pure experience of it all and so one day I can look back at my photos and video and be able to say I did it! And look at that guy, wow was he ever in shape! If you want to achieve something in life you have to set real goals for yourself.

Wish me luck...

Why CrossFit is the Best Workout Program Period

OK, so I was doing a bit of fishing with the title to this YouTube video. But hey, you got to do what you got to do to bring attention to your videos in this dog eat dog super competitive YouTube community...

What I mainly talk about in this CrossFit directed video is: If CrossFit get's you off the couch and doing something active and if you find it interesting and enjoy the atmosphere and motivation to the point where you want to keep doing it, and perhaps become a stronger, more energetic, and healthier you. Then yes, it may just be the Best Workout Program Period - well at least for you.

As we know by some of the CrossFit nay-sayers out there. CrossFit is not the Best Workout Program Period for everyone. Perhaps yoga, or Jazzercise, or Zumba or just regular weight training is a better match for them and that's OK and all good as long as it keeps them coming back for more...

One other strong point I bring up is that you need find an instructor that knows their stuff. Like any type of exercise program, if your instructor is not on the ball, then not only will you get far less out of it, but you could even hurt yourself. We all want to stay away from bad experiences no matter what activity you plan to do.

Why You Should Never Ever do Kipped Pull-ups!

It has become common knowledge thanks in part to the overwhelming outcry from all the Internets fitness experts, that Kipped Pull-ups have no place in todays heavily regulated exercise community. There is never ever an expectable time or place that Kipped Pull-ups should be allowed...

As a regular "CrossFitter", I recognize and fully support this mindset! Please help us stop this insanity!
